MONDAY, JULY 4

Typhoon Burglarized

A 30-year-old man, of the 6400 block of West Parkside Drive in Tinley Park, reported Monday that sometime between June 29 and July 4, someone broke into his garage and stole an Optima car battery and a 7-inch, dash-mounted TV from his 1993 GMC Typhoon.

Honda Burglarized

A 36-year-old man, of the 7000 block of 173rd Place in Tinley Park, called police around 7 a.m. to report that his 2008, four-door Honda Accord was missing from his driveway. The man said he believed the car was stolen between 9 p.m. July 3 and 6:30 a.m. July 4.

Driving Under the Influence

Police arrested Daniel J. Lavelle, 24, of the 4500 block of West 151st Street and Midlothian around 8:25 p.m. near the intersection of 171st Street and Harlem Avenue in Tinley Park after they saw him slamming on his brakes and weaving from lane to lane. Lavelle was charged with driving under the influence and driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol content greater than 0.08.

Man Snags $320 in Clothing

Police said they stopped Foster Johnson, 49, shortly before 7 p.m. near the intersection of 159th Street and Harlem Avenue because he matched the description of a man who had stolen clothes from Burlington Coat Factory earlier in the day. They said Johnson had 19 pieces of clothing—with tags on each item—totaling $320.95 in his backpack. He was charged with retail theft of products worth more than $150.

Shattered Glass and Missing Speakers

A 32-year-old man, whose 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe was parked in the lot of Edgewater Walk Apartments, 5940 Lakebluff Dr. in Tinley Park, reported that sometime between midnight and 4:20 a.m., someone broke into his vehicle. His front, passenger-side window was shattered and a stereo, amplifier and speakers were stolen, according to the police report.

Man Stuffs Smirnoff in Shorts and Bolts

An employee at Jewel-Osco, 17117 S. Harlem Ave., Tinley Park, called the cops around 5:45 p.m. after a man stuffed a 1.75-liter bottle of Smirnoff Vodka in his shorts and ran out of the store, police said. The employee followed the man, but lost sight of him near 71st Avenue. Staff members said they've seen the same person in the store many times before. The bottle was priced at $16.99.

SATURDAY, JULY 2

Unauthorized Access to a Computer

Timothy P. Petty, 58, of the 9200 block of Ethyl Lane in Tinley Park, was arrested around 11 a.m. at his home on a warrant out of the Graves County Sheriff's Department in Kentucky for unauthorized access to a computer, police said. His bail was set at $2,500.

FRIDAY, JULY 1

Bike Stolen from Garage

A 33-year-old woman on the 8000 block of West 160th Street called the cops around 2:40 p.m. to report that a sliver and blue woman's Huffy mountain bike was stolen form her open garage. She said the overhead garage door was open at the time of the theft, which she believed to be around 11 a.m. on June 29. The bike was valued at around $150.

Harassment

Police said they arrested Maureen E. Kelly, 50, of the 800 block of Westshire Drive in Joliet, around 8:55 p.m. and charged her with harassment through electronic communications to a 55-year-old Tinley Park man she'd met on Craigslist. The two were in a relationship at one time, according to the police report.

Lexus SUV Missing

A 35-year-old Darien man called police around 11:55 a.m. after he said his car was missing from the parking lot at CarMax Auto Superstores, 18800 S. Oak Park Ave. He said he dropped off his 2005 Lexus LX470 sport utility vehicle in the lot on June 21 around 12:45 p.m. When an auto sales company representative went to pick it up on July 1, it wasn't there, according to the report.

Driving Under the Influence

Lauren V. Anderson, 19, of the 7700 block of 170th Place in Tinley Park, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. while driving in the 1800 block of Oak Park Avenue after police said they saw her drifting in her lane. She was charged with driving under the influence and driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol content greater than 0.08. A passenger in the car, Thomas E. Zagajowski, 20, no address given, was issued a citation for consumption of alcohol by a minor.

Check Fraud Warrant

Dmari W. Jackson, 39, of the 8000 block of Klarney Court in Tinley Park, was arrested around 3:30 p.m. at the Tinley Park Police Department, 7850 183rd St., on a warrant out of Will County for check forgery, police said. His bail was set at $75,000.

THURSDAY, JUNE 30

Man Uses Fake Travelers' Checks

Police said they got a call around 3:20 p.m. from an investigator at Super Target, 7300 W. 191st St., who said that on May 31, a man used $400 in fake travelers' checks to buy items at the store. The man, who was described as black and in his mid 40s or early 50s, bought $314 worth of products at Target and received $85 in change back. He used counterfeit American Express travelers' checks, according to the report, and signed the name "Sherman Nesbitt."

Durbin's Window Broken After Brawl

Richard L. Burke, 44, of the 5600 block of West Fairfax Road in Oak Forest, was arrested around 11:40 p.m. at Durbin's, 17265 Oak Park Ave., and charged with battery and criminal damage to property. Police said Burke got into a scuffle in the bar and when he left, he punched a southwest window of the building, shattering it. Police found him bleeding on 173rd Street, just south of Durbin’s, according to the report.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 29

Woman Takes Off with $339 Worth of Smell Goods

A manager at Ulta, 7350 W. 191st St., said a woman in her early 40s stole five bottles of perfume from the cosmetics store around 12:40 p.m. The items included an $80 bottle of Coach Poppy, a $72 bottle of Burberry Brit, a $57 bottle of Gucci Guilt, a $73 bottle of Acqua Di Gio and a $57 bottle of Bvlgari Aqua, totaling $339. A store employee followed the alleged thief out of the store and took down her license plate number. Police said a photo of the registered owner of the car did not match the description of the woman that employees said was stealing from the store.

TUESDAY, JUNE 28

Battery

Jacques J. Camalick, 28, of the first block of Brighton Place in Burr Ridge, was arrested around 9:40 a.m. in the 7800 block of West 183rd Street and charged with battery. His bail was set at $1,000.

MONDAY, JUNE 27

Woman Caught with Cell Phone, Wallet

A Chicago woman was fighting with patrons at TJ Maxx, 16025 S. Harlem Ave., Sunday night after police said she got caught stealing one of their cell phones and wallet. Karen J. Flowers, 46, of the 400 block of West Tremont Street in Chicago, was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of DuPage County and also was charged with theft, according to the police report. A store manager called the cops around 6:30 p.m., after Flowers stole a 53-year-old woman's phone and wallet out of her purse, according to the report. "The only reason that they knew something happened was because (the victim's) cell phone rang with a distinctive tone and drew attention to (Flowers)," the report said. "At that point, the suspect took the phone out of her front pocket and said 'This is mine.'" The victim's daughter said she then saw her mother's wallet under Flowers' arm, police said. Employees at the store stopped Flowers from leaving.
