Southland crime: Armed robbery in Oak Lawn, fire at Howe site in Tinley Park (2024)

The following items were taken from police and court reports and news releases. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.

Burbank

ILLEGAL DRUGS: South Suburban Emergency Response Team members recovered 500 grams of packaged powder containing suspected methedrine-amphetamine and an electronic scale during a 4:30 a.m. June 19 raid at the home of Latoya Harris, 47, 7600 block of Leclaire Avenue, police said. Harris was charged with illegal manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, police said.

Chicago Ridge

ILLEGAL GUN: Emilio C. Cazares, 55, Cicero, was arrested and accused of drunken driving and violating the sobriety clause of his concealed carry license after officers recovered a handgun during a June 20 traffic stop in the in the 3700 block of 59th Court, police said.

Evergreen Park

DEALING ALLEGED: Julian D. Lewis, 34, Chicago, was arrested and accused of manufacture/delivery of more than 30 grams of cannabis and his vehicle was seized during a May 26 traffic stop in the 9300 block of Western Avenue, after officers recovered multiple plastic bags containing suspected marijuana and a digital scale, police said.

ILLEGAL GUN: Robert J. Campbell, 55, Chicago, was arrested and accused of unlawful use of a weapon June 3 after bringing a handgun into OSF Little Company of Mary Medical Center as a patient, police said. Campbell lacked state-required firearm owner’s identification, police said.

ILLEGAL SHOOTING: Amir Almasri, 29, Bridgeview, was arrested and accused of aggravated discharge of a firearm June 3 after firing one shot at several suspected shoplifters fleeing Smoke City Tobacco, 3336 95th St., police said.

ROAD RAGE: Jamesha R. Jeffries, 33, 2600 block of 89th Street, Evergreen Park, was arrested and accused of battery June 10 in that block after she approached another female’s car, argued and then physically attacked her, police said.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT: Russell W. Green, 44, Chicago, was arrested and accused of aggravated assault June 15 at a grocery store in the 2500 block of 95th Street after he followed another person into the store, continued an argument and displayed a knife, police said.

THEFT: Tommie C. Shaw, 55, Normal, was arrested June 17 and accused of theft/less than $500 at Advantara Rehabilitation Center, 10124 Kedzie Ave., after an investigation using video camera recordings showed he was taking patients’ belongings, police said.

Frankfort

IDENTITY THEFT: Gwendolyn M. Dampier, 24, 2300 block of 119th Street, Blue Island, was arrested June 11 and charged with aggravated identity theft and theft of more than $500, according to Will County court records. Dampier used her position as an at-home caregiver in October to take a debit card and charge card from a Frankfort resident, incurring about $4,000 in unauthorized charges for clothing, delivered food and to bolster the Cook County Jail account of a friend, police said.

Glenwood

THEFT: Angelic C. Eicke, 43, Hastings, Iowa, was arrested by Iowa High Patrol as she headed for home June 17 in a 2021 Freightliner after being fired at the Cedar Rapids-based company’s terminal at 425 194th St., Glenwood. She is charged with first-degree theft, according to Scott County, Iowa, court records online.

Oak Lawn

STORE BURGLARY: Several men who arrived in a car stolen out of Chicago entered J and Q Smoke and Vape, 9632 Pulaski Road, through a smashed window at 3:10 a.m. June 13, police said. A witness reported the group drove away seconds before officers arrived, police said.

RESTAURANT BURGLARY: It took only two minutes for three people in masks to smash the glass front door of Dunkin’, 8940 Cicero Ave., with a brick at about 3:30 a.m. June 20, enter the business, take two change machines and two trays of doughnuts and flee, police said. Employees working the drive-thru reported the break-in, which was also captured by security video cameras.

ARMED ROBBERY: Three masked males, one of whom displayed a handgun, exited a SUV June 20 in the 9900 block of Merton Avenue and took a wallet, identification, two cellphones and cash from two people, police said. One of the males punched one of the people in the mouth before fleeing in the SUV, police said.

Palos Heights

IDENTITY THEFT: Alberto J. Rios, 39, Queens, New York, was arrested and accused of identity theft June 17 at First Merchants Bank, 7101 W. 127th St., after attempting to open a fraudulent bank account using another person’s identification, police said.

Park Forest

ILLEGAL AMMUNITION: A 30-year-old Bolingbrook man working as a security guard was charged with being a felon unlawfully possessing a firearm and illegally possessing ammunition June 22 at a multifamily complex in the 100 block of Sycamore Avenue, police said. Officers arrested Vincent M. Richardson after determining he had two 9 mm ammunition clips with a replica 9 mm Glock and no state-required permits at Autumn Ridge Apartments, police said.

Steger

SHOTS FIRED: Justin A. Buckner, 33, Calumet City, was arrested and accused of recklessly discharging a firearm June 17 during an argument over a cellphone in an apartment complex parking lot in the 400 block of West 35th Street, police said. No one was injured, police said.

Tinley Park

ARSON SUSPECTED: Firefighters responded to several lit fires at a vacant power plant building at the former W.A. Howe Developmental Center, 7600 183rd St., and reported seeing four youths fleeing.
